You know, I think today's comic
is really almost perfect. Well, as far as I can hope for, anyway.
Sylphi's legs are a bit too short in panel three, but she looks cute. And Twim looks pretty cute, too. ^_^

Today's comic took bloody *forever* to do. Oy.
There's this problem when doing comics, that you have these ideas in your head about what you want, and what everything means, and then you get them down on paper, and then you get them into the computer and uploaded and all of that, and you wonder if any of it even comes through...
If you've been paying attention (read: if you're magically psychic and have been sitting next to me,) you've probably noticed me complaining about the stereotype of the rambunctious, imaginative child (who presumably grows into the rambunctious, imaginative adult,) a la Calvin
Which is a tad hypocritical for me to complain about too much, given that Sylphi fits exactly into that mold.
I like to think, of course, that there's one thing which makes Sylphi not completely and utterly cliched. Which is that Sylphi is the way she is largely because she's fucked up. It's something I've been hinting at, as far back as comic 7, Luggage
, and occasionally elsewhere, such as here
And today's comic
gives us a hint of what caused that fucked-up-ness. I can only hope that people understand it, and don't just look at it and go, 'Bwuh...?"
BTW, if anyone feels like bitching about whether Marilyn Manson counts as 'goth' or not, they can go fuck themselves. (Unless I actually know them and care about their opinions.) I am not going to argue about the musical preferences of a fictional character.

Somebody from the "Kuwait Ministry Of Communations" visited my comic today. They read, like, all of it. Even the character profiles and the shop and the links and all that stuff most people don't even click on... They had, like, 81 page loads...
I figure, looking at shit like this probaly isn't very legal in Kuwait... Boy says they might have been looking at it to see if it were worth banning, but I don't think my comic is really 'big' enough to be worth banning.

Holy fuck, woman, what did you do to our eyes?

Today is the last day of the Day Three storyline; it is, moreover, an important if poorly-drawn comic.
In other news, you will soon have twice the elfy goodness! That's right, starting next week, The Naked Elf will be updating on Sundays and Wednesdays.
All because I love you.
...Okay, actually, because I love drawing elves.

Keenspace (aka comicgenesis) is down. No idea why, probably just normal server trouble. Bugger.
I'm almost done with a rather large update for the comic. Only problem is that I realized this morning another comic which needs to go in before the update. Bugger again.

Speaking of Which...
There's going to be a Special Edition Naked Elf on Tuesday.
It will involve naked elves. Ergo, not work-safe.
The Authoress says I should tell everyone she's sorry about not updating the LJs lately. I think she's a lazy bum.

Very much not work safe
This week's naked elf isn't work safe.
However, given that the entire site is curently broken due to keenspace transfering over problems, tha'ts not really a probelm.

So. The Naked Elf finally updated, at least a day late. (I did sort of stop checking after a while.) Grr... Keenspace. But, hey, free servers. You get what you pay for.
Anyway, today's a bit of a doozy. Have fun. ^_^http://nakedelf.keenspace.com

The calendar is up!
Don't even fucking ask how long I spent on this or what I *should* have been doing with that time.
It is available in worksafe and non-worksafe versions. (The worksafe version contains no dirty language or nudity, although the cover does still say 'The Naked Elf' since that's the name of the comic. :P (And August contains the potato love referenced in this weeks comic, but I still maintain that there is nothing actually dirty going on in this picture. It is just a happy pixie trying to carry a potato which happens to be bigger than he is.)
The no nudity calendar is here: http://www.cafepress.com/sylphi.38312306
And the with nudity (much better!!) calendar is here: http://www.cafepress.com/firesprite.38314880
I think I literally spent over four hours on one of those pages... But they're so pretty! ^_^

So apparently (and people tell me this now, looong after I drew and inked and scanned and colored and uploaded the comic) that meathooks don't bleed if done right. Geeze.
Actually, I could have known this myself if I'd bothered to look at any of the reference materials (IE Modern Primitives) I have lying around, but to be honest, I kind of assumed that they'd wiped away the blood for the pictures but that it woulnd't be unreasonable for them to bleed a bit.
(Besides which, I kind of figured on folks not quite 'getting it' that the hooks were going through the cat-guy's skin unless i had a little blood in the pic.)
Anyway, a kind reader sent me this picture: http://www.dnalounge.com/gallery/2005/01-13/508.html
of a meathook performance at the DNA Lounge in San Fran, the one my ex was telling me about. (And of course, now my current BF pipes up, "Oh, I think I've seen that.")
Same man, from the front: http://www.dnalounge.com/gallery/2005/01-13/507.html
Hrm. Looks erect to me...
Hey, here's a closeup of the man's back, getting the hooks.. in? out? Probably out. http://www.dnalounge.com/gallery/2005/01-13/510.html
Remarkably blood-free, all things considered. Although that fellow is standing there with what look like tissues, so there may be some blood loss after the hooks are removed.
Skin is remarkably strong, isn't it?
There are lots of other fun pictures. I'm sure you can find them on your own.

Today's Naked Elf draws largely from my readings of 'things designed to gross me out.'
(Why do I read these things? Because I believe being disgusted by simple physical things to be a character flaw. Therefore, I work to eliminate such reactions.)
At some point I'll learn to position the dialogue balloons such that they actually make sense.
oh, well. http://nakedelf.keenspace.com
